A new Country CEO to lead expansion

Vetopia, one of Europe’s fastest-growing veterinary groups with more than 200 practices across seven countries, is set to launch in the UK this autumn. To lead its UK operations, Vetopia has appointed experienced veterinary professional and commercial leader Ben Hanning MRCVS as its new Country CEO.

Staying true to its country-led model, Vetopia will introduce a new UK-specific brand under its umbrella in the coming months. Each practice will retain its independence and culture while benefiting from Vetopia’s extensive European network, advanced resources and collaborative approach.

Experienced leadership to drive UK growth

Leading Vetopia’s UK business, Ben Hanning MRCVS brings a wealth of experience spanning veterinary care, operational leadership and multi-site management. Starting his career in clinical practice, Ben has spent the past decade building and leading organisations across the veterinary and dental sectors, including laboratory services.

On his appointment, Ben Hanning said: “Veterinary professionals are under more pressure than ever – and I’ve lived that reality. Vetopia’s UK launch is about creating a new way forward: empowering vets to focus on exceptional care while giving them the support, resources and ownership opportunities that they deserve.

“Our approach is designed to provide the right balance between autonomy and collaboration. Together, we can nurture what makes each clinic special while ensuring every team has the tools to thrive.”

The Vetopia model: providing autonomy, support, and ownership

A key element that sets Vetopia apart is its unique ownership model. More than half of the company’s shares are owned by employees, an approach rarely seen in the sector. This enables vets and clinic leaders to become shareholders and directly benefit from the group’s success, while fostering long-term value, collective commitment and a sense of shared purpose across the network.

Peter Thomsen, Group CEO at Vetopia, said: “Vetopia’s success across Europe shows that veterinary excellence thrives when clinicians lead the way. Our country-led model combines local decision-making with the benefits of being part of a larger network, giving practices the freedom to deliver care their way while accessing shared expertise, investment and resources.

“We are delighted to have an experienced and values-driven leader like Ben guiding our UK launch, which marks an exciting milestone in Vetopia’s expansion.”
