A Great Day Out
Northern Ireland Veterinary Industry Golf Society Day on 17th September
The weather stayed fine and the veterinary industry took to the links at Royal Portrush on Saturday 17th September.
“We played on the Valley at Royal Portrush. It was a real treat – with 64 members taking part – a record attendance, including 11 ladies. As far as I recall that was also a record for us” said Society Secretary Dan Flynn.
“We were able to hold the event at this iconic venue as Margaret Ellison is a member of Royal Portrush (although she was unable to attend on the day). We were also lucky with the weather – we had a lovely afternoon with no rain.
“Anne Healey won the overall prize for the year which is a combined spring and autumn ELANCO shield – with combined scores for both events.
“The whole day went very well. Everyone was punctual –and all matches went out well organised. Margaret had also organised goodie bags for us, with golf balls and other treats – which was very sweet.”

Dinner for 68 people was held afterwards, with a private room in Royal Portrush, sponsored by MSD animal Health.
“We had pre-ordered meals and there was a very special atmosphere,” said Dans. “A few speeches were made, and with the numbers being so good, I think everyone just enjoyed being up at Royal Portrush, and delighted with the free meal form MSD!”
The incoming Captain for this year is Shane Murray, taking over from Margaret Allison.
Dan Flynn remains as Secretary. The next event is the Spring outing at Killymood (Cookstown).
The Autumn event will be at Malone Gold Club, where Shane is a member.
Michael Maybin was the winner of the Jim McDowell Trophy, awarded to the best score amongst the practicing vets on our Autumn day.
Thank you to all sponsors over the 2 events added Dan.
