Private equity firm invests in Irish vet group

Private equity firm Inflexion has invested in one of the largest independent groups of veterinary practices in the Republic of Ireland.

Village Vets was founded in 1980 and today its 260 employees operate 19 sites predominantly in the Greater Dublin Area. Funding from Inflexion will support expansion at four of Village Vets’ existing sites as well as the opening of a new outlet in Ashbourne, Co. Meath.

The investment is being made by Inflexion’s Enterprise Fund V. DC Advisory advised Inflexion on the investment.

Inflexion has experience in scaling pet care businesses and plans to leverage its sector knowledge and network of industry experts gained through doubling Medivet’s business between 2015 and 2021.

Malcolm Coffin, partner and head of Enterprise Fund at Inflexion, said: “The Cosgrave family have built up a fantastic business which truly puts pets and their owners at the heart of all they do. Their ambition to provide an enhanced offering and wider footprint will go a long way to helping more pet owners throughout Ireland.

Charles Cosgrave, chief executive at Village Vets, added: “Village Vets is committed to delivering the highest quality of veterinary services in Ireland and Inflexion’s investment is an important milestone for us.

“I am excited that with additional funding in place, from a partner with experience in our sector and who shares our vision, we will be able to achieve our growth plans. This investment will help us expand our locations, bring opportunities to our teams, and most importantly, bring our renowned pet-care and expertise to more customers and their pets.”

DC Advisory was appointed by Inflexion as exclusive financial advisor in September 2023 to provide buy-side M&A services to support Inflexion’s investment in Village Vets. The firm provided valuation support, strategic and sector insight as well as a detailed exit review.
